Matteo Schifanoia is a singer-songwriter, vocalist, crooner, performer, and composer. Born in Italy and based in Brussels, he works between Belgium and Italy, pursuing an artistic career that blends jazz, swing, pop, Italian songwriting, and theatrical chanson, with a constant focus on poetry.
Graduated in jazz singing from the Conservatory of Perugia, he has embarked on an original path that has led him to explore diverse sonic worlds. Among his projects stands out “Cantassurdautore,” in which he writes and performs songs with ironic, poetic, and surreal lyrics, mixing various styles and influences, particularly from the Afro-American tradition.
His first album of original songs, Lo Scapolo (2016), and the single Crisi Rock (2018) received great attention, as did his live performances, which are known for their strong performative element.
In his jazz and swing projects, he interprets with elegance and personality the great Italian-American crooners such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Louis Prima, and Perry Como, as well as American jazz icons like Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole. His repertoire also includes renowned Francophone performers such as Yves Montand, while embracing more modern jazz voices like Mark Murphy and Kurt Elling. He performs with ensembles ranging from traditional jazz to manouche jazz, including pop contaminations, bringing to the stage a unique and captivating energy.
